Exemption / Tax Deferral / Non Profit Information

As a resident of Chatham, you may qualify for a tax exemption if you are 65 years of age or older. An exemption releases an individual from having to pay a portion of their property tax. Also, Massachusetts allows you to defer your taxes if you are 65 years or older and meet certain ownership, residency, and income/asset qualifications.

Exemptions


The Veteran exemption Clause 22 must have at least a 10% service related disability determined by the Department of Veteran Affairs and the tax amount is $400.00 which is deducted from the real estate tax bill and $12.00 which is deducted from the CPA tax so long as the taxpayer pays at least 10% of their real estate tax bill.

The Veteran exemption Clause 22E must be 100% service related disability determined by the Department of Veteran Affairs and the tax amount is $1,000.00 which is deducted from the real estate tax bill and $12.00 which is deducted from the CPA tax so long as the taxpayer pays at least 10% of their real estate tax bill.   

The Blind exemption Clause 37 must be 65 years of age or older and the tax amount is $437.50 which is deducted from the real estate tax and $13.13 is deducted from the CPA tax so long as the taxpayer pays at least 10% of their real estate tax bill.

The Senior exemption Clause 41C must be 65 years of age or older and the tax amount is $1,000.00 which is deducted from the real estate tax and $30.00 is deducted from the CPA tax totaling $1,030.00 so long as the taxpayer pays at least 10% of their real estate tax bill.
