PFAS Public Education Material

The Water Department has mailed educational material on the detection of elevated levels of PFAS in water samples taken from one of the Town's wells to all Town water customers as required by MA Department of Environmental Protection.

Elevated levels of PFAS were detected in Well #5 in April and it was immediately taken offline. Well #5 remains offline while additional testing is conducted and mitigation measures are evaluated. The Water Department is investigating other sources to meet the increased demand for water in the summer. The Town has issued mandatory water conservation measures  and everyone is asked to do their part by adhering to those restrictions.

As water accounts are are generally held by property owners, renters and tenants are encouraged to review the material as posted on the Town's website.

Independence Day Parade

The parade is back! Find your spot along Main Street or Crowell Road early on Saturday, July 3rd. The parade steps off from Shore Road at 9:30 a.m.

This year's judges are Pat Vreeland, Ginny Nickerson and Monomoy Regional High School Valedictorian Amy Hinesley. The Independence Day Parade Committee has chosen to honor First Responders, Health Care Workers, and Teachers as the Grand Marshals and each profession will be represented by a Chatham resident. The parade order of entrants has been posted to the Chatham July 4th Parade website where you can find more information including a map of the parade route.

Name This Newsletter

The previous version of this e-newsletter was called the Town Manager's Community Update and was intended to do just that - provide the community with updates on the Town's response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, local case counts, and restrictions imposed nationally, within the Commonwealth, and locally. We also used it to spread the word about resources and assistance programs for those in our community who were impacted financially.

As we have transitioned out of the state of the emergency and look forward to getting back to "normal" we will continue to issue this e-newsletter and share a variety of news and information we hope is of interest to the public, not just keep the community updated.

So, what should we call it? Send your suggestions to Shanna Nealy and we'll select the one that best represents Chatham's character and the spirit of our community.
