Coast Guard Station Chatham

Coast Guard Celebrates 231 Years

The Coast Guard celebrated its 231st "Birthday" on August 4. It was originally formed as the Revenue Marine by Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton in 1790.

The Town of Chatham has a deep-rooted and storied relationship with the Coast Guard and the importance of Station Chatham to our commercial fleet, recreational boaters, and entire maritime community cannot be understated.

If you agree that Station Chatham is a vital resource to Chatham and our neighboring communities, please contact Senator Edward Markey (https://www.markey.senate.gov/contact/share-your-opinion) and Congressman Bill Keating (https://keating.house.gov/contact/email) to request a roundtable discussion with Coast Guard and community leaders on the future designation, staffing, and equipping of Station Chatham be scheduled.

North Beach Open to Oversand Vehicles

The Chatham portion of Nauset Beach (aka North Beach) re-opened to Oversand Vehicles (OSV) access at 12 noon on Thursday, August 5th.

There is no requirement for self-escorting. A valid 2021 OSV permit is required.

Due to beach profile a portion of the front beach is closed between Trails 7 & 8. To access the Inlet area follow the Inner Trail from the Town line or, if on the front beach, follow the signs to the Inner Trail at Trail 7 and then access the front beach again at Trail 8.

Please respect all "Nauset Beach Rules and Regulations for OSVs."

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
