With Gratitude

This week we say goodbye to Mandi Speakman who has served as our Council on Aging Director for 9 ½ years. While we will miss her for her knowledge and guidance as a dedicated professional, we are all happy for her as she embarks on an exciting new chapter in her career as the Assistant Director of Human Services for Barnstable County.  In her new role she will continue to positively impact the lives of our community members in countless ways. Thank you Mandi!

Cape Cod Commission Business Survey

The Cape Cod Commission and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce have issued a fourth online survey to gauge the ongoing effects of the pandemic on Cape Cod businesses and non-profits.

The first pair of surveys, conducted in the summer and fall of 2020, provided critical information on immediate impacts to the region’s business community and insight into the support necessary for businesses and organizations to adapt. A third survey, issued in January 2021, sought to better understand the impacts of the pandemic over the course of the year and included specific questions about how they were fairing in the off-season.

This fourth follow-up survey will evaluate the extended effects of the pandemic, including for the 2021 summer season and examining the impacts of vaccinations on the workforce. Results will reveal more about changes to operations, effects on revenue, impacts to the workforce, and both financial and non-financial needs.

Business owners and non-profit leaders from throughout the region, including past survey participants, are encouraged to respond. The survey will be open through late November, with results expected to be published in December.

Data results from the first three surveys can be leveraged by businesses, towns, and other organizations in grant applications and reports, as it documents the initial impacts of the pandemic as well as those felt during Cape Cod’s peak summer season.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
