549 Main Street Temporary Closure Expected to Continue

The temporary closure of the Town Offices at 549 Main Street is expected to continue into early next week.

The Offices and adjacent buildings experienced a brief power outage on Wednesday, followed by a surge. The electrical contractor is working to evaluate the impacts of that surge to the building's systems.

Staff is working remotely and is available to serve the community via email and phone. As taxes are due in the Treasurer's Office by 4 p.m. on Monday, May 2nd property owners are encouraged to use our online payment portal. Checks may also be dropped in the Tax Payments slot at 549 Main Street.

Senator Elizabeth Warren will be hosting a meet & greet at the Community Center tomorrow, Saturday, April 30. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. and the event begins at 3:15 p.m.

Senator Warren will make remarks and answer questions about what is happening in the Senate and her efforts on behalf of Massachusetts families. There will also be an opportunity for the public to speak with the Senator's staff about questions or concerns they have or any assistance needed with federal agencies.

Road Striping Old Queen Anne Road

The southern portion of Old Queen Anne Road will be striped on Monday, May 2nd between the hours of 7 a.m. and 12 noon.

Detail officers will be on hand to manage traffic flow but minor detours may be needed.

If possible, please avoid the area.

Clam Shack Blues May Cause Some Traffic Delays

A small crew will be filming Clam Shack Blues in Town next week. The filming may result in some traffic delays near filming locations. Police details will be in place to facilitate traffic flow. The Police Department will be notifying area residents.

Cape Cod Conservation District Awarded $42.5 Million

The Cape Cod Conservation District has been awarded $42.5 million in funds to continue the Cape Cod Water Resources Restoration Project( CCWRP) which restores shell-fishing areas, revitalizes degraded salt marshes, and restores herring runs and fishways across Cape Cod.

Included in the funded work is the replacement of of the crushed culvert under Rte. 28 at Ryder's Cove and modification of the fishway channel leading to Stillwater Pond.

The Cape Cod Water Resources Restoration Project was developed by the Cape Cod Conservation District and the Natural Resources Conservation Services twenty years ago and approved by Congress in 2006. The project included 76 sies on Cape Cod.The project was updated last year with 21 new sites.

Annual Town Meeting

Annual Town Meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 14th in the gymnasium of the Monomoy Middle School, 425 Crowell Road.

A secondary "masks required" room will be available for those who may be immunocompromised or are concerned about being seated in the main gym. Warrants are mail to the households of all registered voters. Please bring your copy with you to the Meeting.

Due to the number of articles included in the year's warrant, the Select Board voted to recommend to the Moderator that if a second day is required, the meeting be continued to Sunday, May 15th.

Community Hero Project

As part of a unit centered around "The Finest Hours" by Michael Tougias and Casey Sherman, student in Grade 6 at Monomoy Middle School explored the question - what does it mean to be a hero?

The students interviewed community members across a variety of professions including elected and appointed municipal employees and learned to recognize the influence that everyday heroes have on building a connected community. The project was presented at the Community Center on April 27th.

Cape Cod Commission Childcare Survey

Does your family need or receive childcare services on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, or Nantucket? The Cape Cod Commission, in partnership with the Rennie Center for Education Research & Policy, is looking for parents/guardians of children aged five years and under to participate in a survey aimed at better understanding childcare needs for Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket Counties. This survey is available online or on paper in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole. Survey respondents cane enter to win one of ten $100 Visa gift cards from the Rennie Center. The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
