Become a Master Gardener

The Master Gardener Association of Cape Cod is now accepting applications for the 2023 class. If you enjoy gardening, are enthusiastic about helping people, and would like to share your gardening knowledge, please consider applying. The application deadline is October 1, and accepted applicants will be notified in late October.

The Master Gardener program is a cooperative effort between community volunteers and the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension. This program is designed to meet the horticulture needs of Barnstable County citizens through education and outreach. If accepted into the program, you will be trained by the Cooperative Extension to use the organization’s expertise in teaching people about plants, pests, and the environment as it relates to ornamentals and food crops. The Master Gardener program requires a commitment to both training time and volunteer time.

Eversource Assistance Programs

With high heat and humidity many of us are using more electricity to keep cool this summer. Higher usage combined with recent rate increases are resulting in shocking electric bills! But don't sweat it, help is available.

Eversource offers programs that can lower your monthly payments including discounted rates for eligible customers and Budget Billing which can tame seasonal spikes by paying a fixed amount each month. Call Eversource at 866-861-6225 for more information.

Fuel Assistance is also available from the Good Neighbor Energy Fund and renters can receive assistance through the Massachusetts' Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
