Congratulations to MRSD Winter Athletes

Congratulations to all the winter athletes in the Monomoy Regional School District for their hard work and dedication throughout the season!

A special shoutout goes to the boys high school basketball team for their remarkable achievement in advancing to the “Sweet 16” round of the Division 4 State Championships. Although the journey ended with a heartbreaking loss in overtime to the #2 seed Bourne Canalmen, your perseverance and teamwork have made our community proud.

Additionally, a huge round of applause to the Nauset/Monomoy girls hockey team for their outstanding performance in reaching the “Elite 8” round of the Division 2 State Championship. Your resilience and talent shone brightly throughout the tournament, culminating in a thrilling matchup against Algonquin. While the final score may not have been in your favor (Algonquin 2, Nauset/Monomoy 1), your efforts and sportsmanship have truly exemplified the spirit of competition.

To all the athletes, coaches, and supporters involved, congratulations once again on a fantastic winter sports season. Proud to be a Shark!

Funds Secured for Replacement of Canal Bridges

The Fiscal Year 2024 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act includes $350 million in federal funding for the replacement of the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges.

Senators Edward J. Markey (D-Mass) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) and Congressman Bill Keating (MA-09) released the following joint statement:

"We are pleased to have secured $350 million in the fiscal 2024 appropriations bills for the Cape Cod Bridges project. This funding is another major step towards replacing the aging Sagamore and Bourne bridges and delivering much-needed federal investment to Cape Cod, the Islands, and the surrounding region. We are grateful for Senate Appropriations Chair Patty Murray for prioritizing the Brides and appreciate the ongoing partnership of Governor Healey and the Biden administration to make this project a reality."

The funding builds upon the $372 million grant that the US Department of Transportation awarded Massachusetts in December for the replacement of the Cape Cod Bridges.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
