Consideration of Meetinghouse Road LDA on February 4th

Deceased Waterfowl Found on Beaches

The Town received reports of deceased waterfowl on Town beaches this week. Animal Control Officer Diane Byers collected and examined eight duck carcasses collected from a concentrated area of Ridgevale Beach on January 23d. Some of the birds exhibited wounds which suggest they were hunted rather than dying from disease. The incident has been reported to the State. The duck hunting season runs through January 28th.

While this case was likely due to hunting, Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), commonly known as bird flu, is present on Cape Cod. If a member of the public encounters a dead bird on one of our beaches, they are asked to contact ACO Byers at 508-945-5111 or diane.byers@chathampolicema.com. The public should not attempt to collect or move any bird carcasses.

The Mainsheet

The name of our e-newsletter was selected from submissions by our community.
In nautical terms a mainsheet is the line connected to the boom which allows a sailor to control the speed of a boat. We think that is fitting for an e-newsletter that can be used to quickly send out important information to our community or at a more leisurely rate for less pressing matters. It reflects Chatham’s maritime history, is reminiscent of the front page of a newspaper, and it is a fun play on Main Street, where you go to be part of all that is happening in Town!
